Enjoy 4 of Pittsburgh’s Top Parks and Trails

Are you planning a camping trip near Pittsburgh this spring? Spend your first camping excursion of the year by exploring a few of Pittsburgh’s top parks and trails. After picking up your travel trailer rental from Freedom RV Rentals, head on over to one of these four parks and trail locations to enjoy some of the best views and scenery near Pittsburgh.

1. Highland Park

Highland Park is a well-maintained park in Pittsburgh that features Victorian-style gardens, a restored fountain, and amenities such as playgrounds, picnic shelters, and a swimming pool. This urban park features a walking track that wraps around one of the city’s water reservoirs. Before or after you stroll through Highland, plan to spend time at the Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium, which are both located within the park’s grounds.

2. Riverview Park

Another popular city park in Pittsburgh, Riverview Park features densely-wooded trails, tennis courts, a swimming pool, and an off-leash dog park. The highlight of Riverview, though, is the historical Allegheny Observatory. Free tours are given on Friday nights from April through October, where you can observe the skies through the Fitz-Clark telescope.

3. Hartwood Acres

Hartwood Acres, in Allegheny County, is home to a Tudor-style mansion that was built between 1927 and 1929. Public tours are available via reservations, but the grounds of the estate are free for anyone to roam at any time. Including the gorgeous scenery that surrounds the mansion, there are several sculptures to explore and an amphitheater available where public concerts are held in the summer.

4. Harrison Hills Park

This 500-acre park on the edge of the Allegheny River features stunning views of the river itself as well as the surrounding areas. There are eight trails in Harrison Hills that are well-maintained and easy to follow. You can choose from two types of trails — out-and-back paths or looped trails — and the distance of each trail is between one and three miles. One of the best times to visit Harrison Hills Park is during fall when the leaves are in full color and beginning to fall off the trees, allowing visitors to see much more of this large, breathtaking park.
